A Visit from the Collard Green!

As a part of our continuing efforts to encourage our students to make healthy eating choices as well as our partnership with the South Carolina Farm To School organization, our students were visited by a large collard green.

The costume, which was provided by Clemson University and worn by volunteer Beth Holcombe, provided a fun and interesting reminder for the students to eat healthy locally grown produce whenever possible.

Some of the collards served at lunch came from the school garden which the students have been working hard on since the fall of this year!

Safety first at St. Anthony School

Friday, March 11th, 2011

During the last week of February and the first week of March, Safety Environment Coordinator Teri Seabrook and Parish Nurse Sara Ostendorff taught all grade levels about safety. Students were taught not to talk to strangers and about safe touching. Many thanks to all those who have helped to keep St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School safe!

In the photo above, Parish Nurse Sara Ostendorff  helped to teach NaKisha McKinney and Caitlin Baker’s K3 class about stranger safety with the help of “Robbie Rabbit” and the stranger, “Vulture.”

Meet Joe Bryson

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

On any given afternoon, Joe Bryson is answering phones, stuffing envelopes, or “doing what Sister Catherine tells me to do,” he says simply. Why is Joe here? He is motivated to help with what he calls “the reparations.”

“Racial prejudice has gone on long enough in our world,” says Joe. “We’re all God’s children. At St. Anthony’s, I can help make it right.”

Serving in a world where people always want to know the return on investment can be difficult. “Return on investment at St. Anthony’s isn’t always something you can see,” explains Joe. “But when you can see it, it’s like the Good Shepherd who looks for that one lost sheep. At the end of the school year, if we’ve found that one child or family and helped them succeed, the whole effort is worth it.”
